I need to remember...

I am very happy with some recent purchases and very ashamed that I don't make purchases like these more often.  I recently went to Needle Nook Fabrics, a locally-run fabric store, and realized what I had realized before but...um...forgotten.  They have really rad fabrics!!

The three knit/jersey type fabrics I purchased last weekend were not only a ton cuter than the ones I'd been buying at the chain stores, but they were 1.) made in the USA and 2.) CHEAP!!!  Like, $4.00/yard.

I think the main thing that makes me forget about dear old Needle Nook is that they're on the other side of town.  But I'd like to make a point to go there more often.

What is this, a yarn blog?

I've started--just started--spinning some gorgeous alpaca.  And yes, I am a beginner!  I will probably be a perpetual beginner when it come to spinning; I just feel it.  But I'm not being negative.  

I think the alpaca will be a challenge.  Doesn't stick together nearly as much as the other stuff I've spun, and I keep dropping the spindle.  

...I'll write more about it when I have more time to play.  But for now...more pictures!

Provincial Jewel

I kind of wish I would have had the foresight to take a picture BEFORE I fulled it.  BUT, I didn't.  Heh.  Here are a few pics of my latest treasure, the first one being before I lined it.

The yarn was hand spun by me from some lovely rambouillet roving that I purchased from Twist.  (Great place, by the way, check it out in the historic Delano district!)  I then knit it, fulled (felted) it, did some simple embroidery, and lined it with some stiff ticking.  Of course, the button is vintage.

So I needed to do some shopping on Etsy.  NEEDED to.  And I bought this.  It's adorable (plus it was on sale!)  From vital.etsy.com.  

New Spring Dress

Hot off the serger!  I love this...half tempted to keep it...but I'll set it free, for the right price. ;) The sad thing about making something like this is I don't ever stop to create a pattern for it as that might hinder my creative flow.  But I suppose that's of it's one-off beauty!

Post No. 1 - Left Over Handspun

As I have had a surprisingly productive day in housecleaning, I feel that I deserve a little break, and what better time to post my first [Folk Craft!] blog post!

Truly there are few things more lovely than a ball of handspun, naturally colored wool; half knit-up with a pair of bamboo needles sticking out of it; basking the the sunlight.  

My dream for this rectangle of yarn is a sort-of-felted/embroidered/folksy--ha!--little pouch.  We'll see where it goes.
